What Are "subject-verb-object" sentences?

Hello,

While I asked for some guidelines for editing my articles to my friend, he questioned "Have you used "subject-verb-object" sentences?"

I may have used subject-verb-object sentences but I am not very much sure about what they are technically. Can someone throw some light on it with one or two examples please?

English is a SVO (subject-verb-object) language.
"The man saw the dog". In simple sentences like this, you can't vary the word order. Most languages conform to one of the six combinations of S-V-O that are possible. (Highly inflected languages like Latin are more versatile).
Other SVO languages are the Romance languages, Vietnamese, Indonesian.
SOV languages are Japanese, Persian, Turkish, Hindi and Gujarati.
Some dialects of Arabic are VSO.
Other basic word orders are much less common. Fijian is VOS, and a handful of languages in the Amazon basin are OVS or OSV.
Since the two Indian languages I mentioned normally have SOV word order, this sounds like the type of thing a teacher would say to someone with Hindi or Gujarati as their mother tongue. But your English seems to be beyond needing advice like that. Was he being sarcastic/ironic?
