"A glance into the past

In Hajdúsámson the story of the education dates back centuries.

The total number was only thirty boys in 1747. The number of students grew due to the start of girls' education, the continuously growing population of the town and the Jozsef Eotvos's draft of a new law of public school. The number of students outgrew the capacity of the existing two classrooms.
A new school was built in 1878 on Szatmári Street, another one (Orthodox Catholic) in 1909 on Árpád Street, and another one (a two-storey school with 8 classrooms) in 1909.

Compulsory elementary school education started on 18th August 1945.
Hajdusamsoni State Elementary School started with 986 pupils.

From 1963 an opportunity opened for mentally retarded children’s training.

Until 1980 we struggled with the lack of classrooms, when the new central school was built with 8 classrooms, later it was enlarged with 4 classrooms.
It was necessary to enlarge the classrooms again in 1997. We did not have any special classrooms or workshops.

We struggled with these problems for years."
