What to call the person who starts a new thread
Hi Everybody
I'm a moderator in a small forum and I found that the none of the members can describe the person who starts a new article (thread).
It is different when we quote one reply/post to show our agreement or opposition because we can use the numbers of each reply such as "floor 1, floor 2, floor 3" . ( The website of BBS looks like many floors of a building.
When there is a discussion in English , they often use some incorrect word.
Thanks
Kevin

Although I haven't used the term on this forum, my term for a person who starts a new thread is thread-starter.

Then you probably have to say what is that that they made, to avoid ambiguity or confusion. And you're most likely to end up with a whole sentence. It depends.
Thread-starter, or (-)poster sounds fine to me.

I would think the author would be responsible for the whole thread.

noted with thanks!
I'll ask our members to be careful on the words they use in discussion.
We are not native speakers and only a part of the new threads or discussion are written in 100% English while most of the threads on usage such as best sentence for reply , accurate words in contract are discussed in Chinese and a few English words.
Or else the new learner and member will feel so difficult.
It's sure that we must improve the English level for all members step by step .
This is why I ask you for the best description for thread-starter.
THANKS FOR RonBee's reply , as well as other friends in other "floors"
:)

I can't think of a better word than 'thread starter'.
Author is a bit too general, you are the author of anything you write.

Some newsgroups use the abbreviation OP, for original poster.

I think the context would be a giveaway though.
