Dear Sir :
Could you please tell me the difference between "hint" and "intimate" when they are used as a vert ? They have the same meaning in my dictionary (Chinese <-> English).
Thank you
Jason
They have the same meaning in mine too! (as a verb)
"intimate" is used more as an indirect suggestion.
"Are you intimating (suggesting/implying) that I'm not good enough for your daughter?"
"hint" is used as giving a clue, not necessarily verbal.
"He was hinting that I wasn't good enough for his daughter". (Perhaps by his attitude or behaviour)
