Hello!
I am wondering why the word of 'right' refers to 'correct' rather than 'left' in English.
e.g. Am I right? (But why not say 'Am I left')
I hope my question is not odd. Thanks in advance!![]()
"Right" has a number of meanings, of which "correct" is one. You will have to study the derivations to see how the word gets its meaning: Online Etymology Dictionary.
Essentially it is a leftist [politically incorrect] term since in past times a person who was left-handed was regarded as in some way morally undesirable![]()
Hi Anglika,
You're always very helpful. Thank you!
