Default stative verbs

'was' is a stative verb but when it's combined with 'born' does it still have the same function- 'was born'.

Yes, it still represents a state, not an action.

'was' remains stative. 'born' functions as an adjective. It doesn't or rather cannot change the meaning of 'was'.
