    Default neither, none

Which is more common after neither and none- plural or singular?

Neither of my ex-boyfriends was/or were really rich?
None of my friends has a car or none of my friends have a car?

In both cases the general rule is:

    Plural verb: informal.

    Singular verb:
    formal.

I would say the plural verb is more common.

    I'm not a teacher.
