I have some difficulities in positioning words correctly in a senstence.

Let me illustration through examples.

My friends said: hey, the typhoon signal will be off in couple of hours, I guess aircraft 's operations will be back to normal soon

So what is my best reply to the above question?

a) The strenght of wind is not the only factor that affects the performance of aircrafts, but also the direction of wind

b) there is not just the strenght of wind affecting aircraft performance but also the direction of wind

May I know which one is correct? and why?

Colloquially the second would sound more fluent than the first, which is rather pedantic and formal.

The typhoon signal has different categories, base on mainly the strength of wind, in hong kong.

when my friends said :hey, the typhoon signal will be off in couple of hours. I guess aircraft 's operations will be back to normal soon. To me, it implied since the strength of wind is diminishing, the aircraft's operations will resume soon.

That is where i want to point out that there is another factor affecting the performance of an aircraft apart from the strength of wind

If the wind is at typhoon level, aircraft cannot take off or land. In that sense it can interfere with aircraft performance, so the answer was correct. However, I suspect what the speakers meant was the airlines would soon be back in operation.

Strength of the wind is one factor, but direction of it is more important. Cross winds are pretty pesky, and most common. At typhoon levels, we don't really worry about the direction of wind. Aircrafts cannot operate - neither on ground (even tarmac), nor in air (takeoff, landing).

Thanks for the clarification.
The typhoon is easing off. Though the strength(speed) of the wind is reduced, the aircraft operators were reminded to monitor the wind direction prior to take-off as the latter also affects the aircraft performance.

It doesn't say the direction of the wind is more important though, just that it should be taken heed of.
