| | Who introduce who A sentence from ReadersDigest. Quote: |
When she asked what I meant by 'click on,' I realised it was time to introduce her to the mouse.
|
Why does the author want to introduce her to the mouse?
Shouldn't it be like this, "introduce the mouse to her" or "introduce her the mouse"? |

Shouldn't it be like this, "introduce the mouse to her" or "introduce her the mouse"? | It's idiomatic. She didn't know what "click on" meant, so I introduced her to the computer mouse (i.e., I showed her what it was and how to use it). :D
'introduce' is a double object verb, but there's no movement:
1. introduce (verb) her (direct object) to the mouse (indirect object)
2. introduce (verb) the mouse (direct object) to her (indirect object)
In 1. she is going to learn more about the mouse, whereas in 2. the mouse is going to learn more about her.
Also,
She introduced me to him. (I was introduced first)
She introduced him to me. (He was introduced first)
All the best, :D |

Tthink you mean the transitive and intransitive verb.
is that right? |

| | Re: Who introduce who A transitive verb is a verb that takes a direct object. An intranstive verb is a verb that doesn't take an indirect object. Many verbs can be used either transitively or intransitively.
In this case, though, in both examples, the verb takes a direct object, so in both cases the verb is quite definitely transitive. Exactly the same construction is used each time: in the first example, "her" is the direct object and "the mouse" is the indirect object; in the second example, it's the other way around. |

| | Re: Who introduce who Hello everyone!
My name is Lumnie Zuka, I am from Kosova (former Yougoslavia). I'm 28 yrs old, and work for an American company here in Kosova as an Admin. Assistant.
A friend of mine e-mailed me this link, and even though I didn't have much time to check this site out, I can already tell that I like it. I love to be able and learn English grammar properly.
Wish everybody an enjoyable time while working on this site and great success!
