Dear friends and Teachers,

- Do all you can to make sure your ex doesn't feel hit with a bombshell. It will take a little work because I know you don't need his input, but you need to handle him so this situation does not get ugly like you think it could.

- Does "his input" mean "his opinion"? and "get ugly" in this situation means "get worse", correct?

You don't need his input: What he will say about it doesn't really matter (but it seems you do need to tell him).

When a situation "gets ugly," it gets bad. Perhaps the author means he will yell, or say vicious things, or possibly even hit you.
