Default of the two sentences ,which one is better?

Hi everyone,
Which of the two sentences is better?
1.We need a new cupboard for our kitchen,so Tom made one from the wood we had.
2.We need a new cupboard for our kitchen,so Tom made another from the wood we had

They mean different things. Another implies that you already had one or more cupboards IMO.

Hi Red5:
First ,thank you for giving me your opinion.
The question is adapted from the 2004 English paper of national entrance examination of PRC.and the the origional question is as following.
"We needed a new cupboard for the kitchen. So Peter made _____ from some wood we had."
A. it B. one C. himself D. another
The answer they gave is "B".I am wondering whether they have made a mistake.
