CELTA Application task

Hello all!

I am new here and am going to apply for a CELTA course in Germany.
My mother tongue is Russian, but I studied English for some years in Russia.
Could you help me please with doing a Celta application assignment.

The task is as follows:


Which of the items in each group is different from the others and in what way?

A to need
B to show
C to bring
D to open


At first I thought that (A) is the odd one out because it can be used as a modal verb and in this case the Infinitive after it is used without to. But now I am not sure.

I would appreciate any help.

Need is also different to the other verbs as it is a state verb, while the other 3 describe actions.

I'm not 100% sure.

It's the first thing that I noticed.

There are many people who are more knowledgable than me on this board. Hopefully someone else will give their opinion.

Don't underestimate yourself!

This is the only thing that crosses my mind right now too, and as these tests have to be standardised, having only one explanation, I'd say it will do.
