I'm not sure what teenagers this is about. This text describes a magazine shoot and it doesn't say anywhere it's in a public place so I don't know what those teenagers are doing there and what abuse they're talking about. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

The shoot was a nightmare. Two underfed models, one dressed as a tomato, the other as an orange, cold and cranky. The girls were fending off teenagers’ abuse of their fruitlike appearance while the photographer bitched about the time.

I believe this is about verbal abuse. Teenagers pulling their leg because of their appearance, can you confirm?

Certainly is. The teenagers were being rude about the appearance of the models.

Yep, that's what I understand too. Two thin as sticks models dressed up in "eat me now" dresses?
Sure they drew every teenager's attention for miles round.
