Current Location: Osaka First Language: Japanese | | Bible The sentences: Hatred destroys our ability to enjoy even our food. The Bible puts it this way: Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.
Could anyone interpret the excerpt for me, and explain the implication behind?
(Whose hatred is it? That of a stalled ox?) |

(Whose hatred is it? That of a stalled ox?) | It's a well known proverb and means about the same as :
"Better a bread crust shared in love than a slab of prime rib served in hate".( Proverb Proverbs 15:17 )
(Think "Keg".. )
Same idea, I think. If there is hatred in your life / heart, it doesn't matter what you have, what material goods you possess, nothing will make you happy. We are born with nothing and we will leave with nothing. What makes a life worth while is your ability to love others and be loved type of thing.
a "stalled ox" is an ox fed in a stall to fatten him up and make him taste extra good when ready for slaughter. Stall being that little barn cubicle where they keep farm animals and where they feed them.
Another take on that would be...the more you have, the less happy you will be. Little and simple makes your heart stay pure, wealth leads to destruction and corruption.
I think you could read a lot into the proverb. |

(Whose hatred is it? That of a stalled ox?) | In addition,
The 'stalled ox' represents material advantages, whereas 'a dinner of herbs' represent lack of material advantages.
'where love is' refers to a home filled with love, whereas 'hatred therewith' refers to a home filled with strife.
In other words, a poor but loving family is better off than a rich family, especially one that strives for material goods at the cost of family relationships.
In the biblical sense, the Proverb is often used in reference to marriage: a successful marriage reflects God; it is about love, not money nor status. |

Keg is a restaurant chain in Canada serving steaks, prime ribs, etc. with nice salads on the side and draft beer (hm hm hm)
I am not sure if it's American as well?...I think it might be. |

Who cares what KD Lang has to say about eating beef. | Poor Cassy! We have one just around the corner from my place: picture this...a steak grilled to perfection with huge onion rings on top...nicely browned up and sizzling right under your nose! Underneath a huge slab of grilled steak (14oz...not for the weak or wimpy) with mashed potatoes and Caesar salad on the side...coutons, parmesan cheese and all. And..hold on...a frosty mug filled with Heinekken...hm hm hm.
Sorry, got carried away...I won't do it to you any more Cassy. I hear the beef can be pricey in Japan so think about all the beautiful cattle ranches in Alberta and what's waiting for you when you come home!
I envy you suhi and everything else Japanese. I just love that stuff. |
