crossroad n.
It has only one meaning: a junction where one street or road crosses another.(same as intersection ... intersections are in bigger cities or towns, not in rural communities)

crossroads(pl)

A place where two or more roads meet.

A small, usually rural community situated at an intersection of two or more roads.

"We were driving around in circles and we knew we were lost. We had to ask for directions at a distant crossroads".

A crucial point. A crisis.

ex.

"He had to make a very difficult decision. He found himself at the crossroads of his life".
