There is a growing trend in North America for children to be called by their complete first name. For example, we are seeing more kids being called William (instead of Will or Bill), Robert (instead of Bob or Bobby) and Jeremiah (instead of Jerry). It is a matter of personal and family preference...as in Daffodil (instead of Daffy).
