Question Unknown expression

I am not a teacher.

I heard an expression and I don't understand it: 'his face is a map of the world'.

Please Help!

Hi, blackvirgo! Welcome to the forums!

I found the following paragraph online. It may help answer your question:

Some days I look in the mirror and everything seems fine, same with pics. Other days, I get pics back or look in the mirror and can see the ravages of time across my face. Scars, wrinkles, bags under the eyes, shiny bald head. They are my own personal map of the world. Just as a map outlines the changes in the world's geography and topography, my face outlines the effects time has had on me. Stress, love (or lack thereof), hard partying, sleepless nights, poor diet and age are taking their toll on my person. I look in the mirror and wonder what happened to me. I look at my watch and wonder where the minutes have gone. I look at the calendar and wonder how so many days have escaped me.

Cheers,
Amigo
