"Nice to meet you"

Hello,

When someone (A) is introduced to a person (B) , he says "Nice to meet you!"

If this same person A meets person B some time later, can he say "Nice to meet you" or should he say "Nice to see you"? Is it wrong to say "Nice to meet you"?

You use "meet" when you are introduced to someone for the first time. After that "see" is better.

When talking to the friend (whom he is seeing/meeting again), he would say "Nice to see you". But when telling someone else that he is going to meet his friend he can use "meet"?


For example,

A: I have to leave now.
B: What is the hurry?
A: I have to meet my friend at 6 pm.

After finishing the meeting/get-to-gether with C,

A: It was nice meeting you after a long time. (Not correct?)
A: It was nice seeing you after a long time.
C: Same here.

"Meeting" and "seeing" both make sense, both are grammatically correct but I think it would be unusual to say "meeting" here. It's not a case of being wrong - just that people wouldn't normally say it.

I hear many Indian people say this (Nice meeting you again) perhaps because of the way the word translates from Indian languages into English.
Seeing as how Indians are growing in business and traveling to various places in the world, and given the sheer population, it is possible that this kind of expression will get spread, because 'normal' is what most people say/use. When most people who use that expression are Indians, it may influence the language. Just a thought.

So if you encounter them on a subsequent occasion, you wouldn't use the term "meet," as it might imply to them that you don't remember them from the initial meeting.
