twos = twosome ?
Dear teachers,
Would you be kind enough to tell me whether “twos” = “twosome”?
There is an sentence from the Helene Pretrovna Blavatsky’s “From the Caves and Jungels f Hindostan”.
”They came in parties of twos and threes, and sometimes there appeared a lonely unescorted woman.”
Thank you for your efforts.
Regards,
V.

The sentence means: sometimes one person came, sometimes two, sometimes three ...
There's no special meaning of two. A party of two is simply two people who came together.
