Default Shengmin

Hello Everyone,

Shengmin in Chinese is used to describe Chinese Ancient Emperor, who not only owned excellent personality( he was plain, considerate …), but boasted outstanding capability of managing his state which was strong and prosperous.

Can you tell me its English equivalent? Can we say good?

Regards

Hi!

I am not a teacher.

Here're some words for your reference.
  • wise
  • great
  • mighty
'Good' doesn't bear the hallmarks you described. Personally, I think 'good' refers to a personal character or nature. For instance, he is a good man.

...except when applied to a king/queen!

Examples:
Good King Wenceslas - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Elizabeth I of England - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Not a very firm correction! But 'a good king' is good for his country as well as being a good man - so a few of these 'Good King/Queen N' collocations exist.
