forward to
Please explaing the follwing two sentences.
1) I look forward to receiving your phone call.
2) I look forward to continued representation from the support staff on this committee.
In sentence 1. there is "ing" after "forward to" but in sentence 2. after "forward to" it is "continued" not "ing" form. PLZ explaing why the differences.
THANKS

In the 1st sentence "receiving" is a gerund joined by preposition to
In the 2nd sentence "continued" is a past participle acting as adjective of the noun "representation" which is joined by the preposition to

In sentence 2 is it grammatically correct to write "I look forward to continuing representation from the support staff on this committee."? THANKS

No, because the preposition "to" should be followed by a noun and there is already a noun 'representatation'. So either you can say: I look forward to representation from the support staff on this committee. or
I look forward to continued representation from the support staff on this committee."
