Post buried as brothers in arms

From Mystery of the 'couple' buried arm in arm 1,000 years ago: Not husband and wife but Saxon warriors | Mail Online

'Until we get the bones examined, we cannot be 100 per cent certain.

'We think they could have been buried as brothers in arms.

'There were no artefacts buried with them to give us any clues. It is a bit of a mystery.'

In the text above, what does "brothers in arms" mean?

'Brothers in arms' in this context means men who died fighting together as soldiers against a common enemy."

So "arms" is a pun. In the expression 'brothers in arms' it means 'weapons', but this couple were buried 'arm-in-arm' - a reference to their upper limbs
