dressing up
From Obama's 'sexist' jibe at Palin: 'You can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig' | Mail Online
In the text below, what does "dressing up" mean?
He said Mrs Palin was "interesting", drawing boos at mention of her name. Perhaps realising the risk in attacking her, he said: "Look, she's new, she hasn't been on the scene, she's got five kids. And my hat goes off to anybody whose looking after five. I've got two and they tire Michelle and me out."
The comments brought a barrage of criticism from the Republicans. Party spokeswoman Amber Wilkerson said: "Sarah Palin's maverick record of reform doesn't need any 'dressing up', but the Obama campaign's condescending commentary deserves some dressing down."

Re: dressing up
It doesn't need to be made to look better than it is. It is okay as it is, and doesn't need to rely on anything other than its own merits to be attractive.
