Default a better expression

Hello teachers

1. Could you please help me choose a more appropriate expression:

The price rose constantly during 3 months/ over 3 months/ for 3 months/ in 3 months.
Or maybe should the sentense be changed somehow to sound more natural?

2. And I`d also like to ask another question about the difference in the meaning of the following expressions:

"in the past/ (last?) year" vs. "last year"
"in the last August" vs. "last August"

Thanks!
