i want to ask these two words: injured and wounded

1) i was injured in a car accident
2) i was wounded in a car accident

my question is; which phrase is correct and why is it like that?

Injured would be more common and is probably better, however the injury could well be a wound, so it wouldn't be wrong to say wounded in this situation.
