Default showing the will using present progressive form

A sport player said the following sentence before the final match.

“I’m coming out on top this time”

It seems that the form of which is apparently present progressive tense. So, I think “I will/am going to come out on top this time” are more suitable in this case because, as you know, the person had not got the first prize yet at that moment.
I wonder if the present progressive form can use for showing one’s own will. Such kind of terms makes me really confuse in learning English sometime.
It would be grateful if somebody could help me!
Thanks in advance.

I think you're splitting hairs... Looks fine to me either way. The way they originally worded it shows confidence IMO.

Thank you very much Cypriot!
Confidence…I kind of understand what it really meant.
So, is it fine if I’d say something like:
“I am buying it tomorrow”
?

That also looks/sounds OK to me, but let's not forget, I'm also a student, so maybe someone else who's smarter can chime in...
