Default match, envied

Dear teachers,

I have four questions to ask.

No.1
The color of your tie should go with your shirt. Can I use "match" and say "The color of your tie should match your shirt"?

No.2
We all have great sympathy for the laid off workers.
Is "with" also correct?

No.3
He came to be one of the _______________ men of his time.
a. envied b. honored c. welcomed
Could you please explain which is the correct choice?

No.4
He had ________ and learned many things.
a. known b. seen
The key is "b". My question is: why isn't "a" correct?

Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thank you in advance.

Jiang

Is "with" also correct? For is more common, but with is acceptable.

No.3
He came to be one of the _______________ men of his time.
a. envied b. honored c. welcomed Usually preceded by "most"
Could you please explain which is the correct choice?

No.4
He had __seen______ and learned many things.
a. known b. seen

Known is redundant. If he has learned many things, then it's obvious that he has known them.

Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thank you in advance.
