subject or object

Hello, Teachers.

I was confused about the difference between subject and object in some contexts. For example, which should be used in the following phrases?

the subject/object of ridicule
the subject/object of attention
the subject/object of study
the subject/object being processed

It would be very nice if you could give me some explanation about the difference.

Hi,
Some people would use them interchangeably.
I think subject is more often used for people, or animate things, things that act. So you observe a man running, or a cat licking its paws; and the man or the cat is the subject of your observation.
"The cat was the subject of my attention."
I would use object for a rock, a painting, any inanimate thing.
"The painting was the sole object of my attention."

Someone else might have a different idea.

Subject of study
The area; e.g., World's Poorest.

Object of study
The focus (i.e., the reason you're studying or investigating it); e.g., to figure out how some of the world's poorest people manage their money in order to see if they can use new technology to save and transfer wealth in ways that are safe.

Hmm, I would call the second the "objective of the study", or at least, the "object of the study". endyia's question seems to be how do your determine whether what you are studying is an object or a subject.

No, not at all! I think your question was clear and very well put, and I hope I interpreted it correctly. The only issue is that Soup has interpreted it in a different way.
