The office is a half-hour drive away.
I saw the above sentence in a book. I assume the sentence means "The office is half an hour far from here if we go by car". So similarly can I say, "The office is a half-hour walk away" to mean half an hour walking distance from here.

You are correct. However far is not used in such a sentence.
The office is half an hour from here if we go by car
I am not a teacher.
