Accoutered in a peak-lapelled suit of sumptuous cloth, Valentino CEO Matteo Marzotto looks like the merchant prince he is.

Well, I sense irony, some kind of mild sarcasm but I don't believe it carries derogation. I think the author was just being humorous.
