Geometry of an iris

Heres my question: im trying to figure out how to map the paths of segments of an iris. If the iris im concerned with is a circle cut into 12 (or any number) of equal segments. If the segments rotate - say 10 degs clockwise - they will also all have to move outwards radially to remain exactly flush edged. But how do i find a way to express this movement vectorially?
