suffering or having suffered
Suffering from heart problems for more than four years,Linnaeus passed away in 1778. (This sentence comes from my textbook.)
Having suffered from heart trouble for years, Professor White has to take some medicine with him wherever he goes.(This sentence comes from Shanghai's examination paper.)
Are both sentences fine? Which is better?
Could I ask native speakers to help me please? Thank you in advance.

Re: suffering or having suffered
They are both OK, I prefer the second "Having suffered..."
