    Hello,

Which of the above is right good or well? or both? when talking about names for instance.

It's to sound good, for the verb sound is a linking verb, and linking verbs take adjectives, not adverbs, as their complement.

Well can be used as an adjective when it means not sick.

Tom sounds good today. (His voice has a high quality sound.)

Tom sounds well today. (He no longer sounds sick.)

The violin (noun) sounds (linking verb) good (adjective) if it is played (verb [participle]) well (adverb).
