candidates and a position
hi,
what's the verb that describes job seekers applying for the same job position? what is each one doing to each other in regard to the position? are they ''running'' for the position? ''disputing''? ''competing''?
thanks a lot!

What about "rival candidates" ?
They are vying for the position, perhaps.

thanks a lot.
isn't "vie" a very formal verb?
the sentence that I am trying to say wouldn't normally be said by a native?
"I am vying for a manager position at the sales department."
thanks.
