Running out of pavement???

Hello, I heard the expression "running out of pavement" and I don't understand the meaning. Is it possible not to be an idiomatic expression and just means what it says? But it makes no sense.
Because I'm not used in hearing english, it might be "payment" or something like that.
If anybody could help I would be grateful.

How about you're in an airplane that is having a hard time lifting off and you're approaching the end of the runway? Or that same airplane is coming in for a landing but not slowing down fast enough? Or you're in a speeding car and the bridge is out ahead and the brakes are failing?

Do I watch too many movies?

Ok, there is a guy in a car, trying to find a person (and he is a bit hurry). He is talking with a girl who navigates him. When the girl looses the signal of the missing person and doesn't know where to tell him to turn, he says the above expression (or something like that)
It is a scene from the series Charlie Jade, season 1, episode 1.
If it helps, this series was produced in South Africa.

I used to live in Cape May, NJ. This is the VERY MOST southern tip of New Jersey. You take the Garden State Parkway until it ENDS to get there. It used to freak me out when I'd be going 65 miles per hour and I'd see the sign "Parkway ends."

It simply made a transition from an expressway to a small road, but I used to get this image of the road just ending and going right off the end of the road and into the ocean.
