Default about formal letter writing

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to ask if there are some other ways to say "i have found myself in this unpleasant situation for a reason", I want to use it in an explanation letter to unpleasant situation caused by my reason.

You might play around with phrases like "There were extenuating circumstances that resulted in my being in this situation" or "Circumstances beyond my control contributed to the situation" or "I found I had no choice" -- it depends on how you want to shift the blame from you. "Meanwhile, what I had failed to recognize was..."

There are as many ways to spin this as there are politicians!
