Can we replace this word ?

Hello teacher and all members.
I have just learnt english for a few months. While I was reading a sentence or writing a sentence, I always wonder "Can i translate this word like that ..." and "Can i replace this word by ...??"
I hope that the teachers and the members help me this problem.
Here is the first.

distinguished from other social science disciplines by its emphasis on in-depth examination of context...


I think that word "work" (...the work of Franz...) that we translate as "the result of a action". Is it right ? Can we replace "work" by "achievement" or "fruit" ?

I think you have the right sense there. Their work, in this case, is the achievements they has made in this field. Their contributions to the body of knowledge have helped defind anthropology in the way the writer describes.

What are the differents between "attraction" and "attractiveness" in the meaning ? We can u both of them , can't we?

They are not synonyms at all.

A car wreck is an attraction. Anything that draws you attention to it, attracts. But you would say it was attractive.

To be attractive, the object should be pretty, nice to look at.
