    Question don't-call-me-a-chick

    Episode:

Marge found a babysitter -Ashley for her kids -Bart and Lisa. Lisa recognised her. Here's the snippet of the dialogue.

    Babysitter: Hi. I'm Ashley Grant.

Lisa: Ashley Grant. You gave a talk on women's issues at my school on how we don't have to be second-class citizens.

Bart: So you're one of those "don't-call-me-a-chick" chicks, huh?

    Question:

Why did Bart say so? Is "chick" offensive to girls, especially to feminists, in English-speaking countries like the US? If yes, why does it sound offensive? Thanks!

Bart is saying she is a feminist who resents being pigeon-holed as a "chick" - it is certainly offensive to the politically correct.

I suppose it sounds offensive to them because of their view of their position in society. To them, to be called "a chick" implies a denigrating attitude towards women on the part of men.
