Explaing the use of the word "Good"
I am taking a TESOL course and I am stuck on one thing. How would I explain that the correct word to use in the following sentence is "Good"?
John speaks excellent French but he doesn't speak very _________ English.
Alternative was "Better"
Re: Explaing the use of the word "Good"
For starters, you can't modify "better" by calling it "very better." Better, and best, are comparatives themselves and cannot be modified.
