Eye, eye, eye, eye, captain (cartoon)
Hello! The sailor keeps saying, "eye, eye, eye, Captain." in the cartoon.
Does the fun lie at the homonym between aye and eye? And is there anything I've missed.
Do the sailors usually say "aye" but not saying "yes" in real life?
Thank you.
P.S. Cartoon Source: Reader's Digest.

Re: Eye, eye, eye, eye, captain (cartoon)
The two "sailors" are potatoes. On potatoes, the place where shooting happens as the plant grows are called "eyes".
Yes, sailors reply "aye aye" when responding to an order.
Rather straining the humour, but quite funny on first sight.
