There are a few words concerning the matter in question:

make do = come to terms or deal successfully with

make do (idiom) = get along with the means available, especially insufficient means. For example,

“We'll just have to make do with one potato apiece. “

Well I have in the past given them fifty each for Christmas but this year they're going to have to make do with twenty.

He got the porter to buy him aftershave, but they didn't sell his musky expensive brand in Perth so he had to make do with a cheaper one from the tourist shop.
