Default two questions

1. I'm sorry to say that, for whatever reason, I've never met her.

"For whatever reason"? The writer used it to suggest that he does not want to elaborate further about the reason that he didn't meet her? Am I getting it right?

2. He told me he had live the American dream, with a thriving business and three children.

"Live the American dream" is a set phrase, right? It refers to the people who came to American and got successful with their lives there?

Thanks.

You're correct in both 1 & 2.
