caricature vs. cartoon

Hello! Could you please tell me the different connotations between "caricature" and "cartoon'?

I think caricature refers to a drawing, and is usually ridiculous; while cartoon is moving picture and is for funny but not necessarily ridiculous. Am I right?

Technically a cartoon is a preparatory drawing for a painting or sculpture. It has taken on the meaning of drawn moving picture.

A caricature is a drawing or written or spoken description of someone, which makes part of their appearance or character more noticeable than it really is, and which usually makes them look ridiculous. caricature - Google Image Search
