Re: auxiliary or lexical verb I would say you are right. Indeed, the definition of a auxiliary verb is that it gives grammatical information, for example about tense, which is not given by the main verb of a sentence:
In your case can give no information, it just implies a certainty. And it is really get (away) that gives the sense of the sentence: You can't get away from this country. Not a teacher at all |
