Does the word 'insert' only apply to documents and words?
Is this sentence correct ' Insert all the ingredients into the pot'

I don't think it's only for documents and words since it's very common to see the notice "insert coin" on public electronic machines.
But I think it's not applicable for your example since if you insert an object into something, you put the object inside it.
