I found a sentence:

Why he writer used "reading of" rather than just "reading the trouble"?

He is not 'reading the tea-leaves in a cup' or 'reading the pages of a book' - he is 'reading about' all the trouble that the Yellow Scarves are stirring up. He may be reading about this in a newspaper:

Reading (in the newspaper) about all the trouble the Yellow Scarves are stirring up…

Reading/hearing/learning of the trouble the Yellow Scarves are stirring up, I decided to...

Not a teacher opinion but I think 'reading of' here would mean 'about'.

"Reading of..." and "Reading about..." are equally appropriate. Just starting the sentence "About the trouble..." would make sense colloquially, but it's very informal.
