To be more specific, y is called semivowel because it is the consonant form of the vowel i.

Semivowel: j, w (sounds that glide gracefully.)


Happy Sherry is sometimes moody,
she said yes but then sorry.


The bold y is a consonant (a semivowel) whereas the rest of y's are a short vowel, i.
