    hello,
    I have a question about the construction "if I were you ..."
    Which is correct when somebody already has done something.

    If I were you I wouldn't have done it.
    or
    If I were you I wouldn't do it.

    I'm not a teacher, just a user of English.

    The first is correct when referring to something in the past.
