cme4me is an unknown quantity at this point
Default Form and Function

What is the function of the underlined words in the following sentences:

They transmitted messages by telephone and radio in their native language-a code the Japanese never broke.

I need to know the type of phrase and the function of the phrase in the sentence.
I believe the first one is a prepositional phrase while the second is a noun phrase.

Thank You

Default Re: Form and Function

The first is an adverbial phrase. The second is an adjectival phrase.
