My teacher asked us to correct the sentence:
Everyday the boy, together with his classmates,
is noticed to go to the sports ground and play football,
enjoying themselves.
I just cannot figure out what is wrong with it. Please
help me to correct it and tell me why. Thanks in advance.
My teacher gave us the answer, the right sentence should be:
Everyday the boy, together with his classmates,
is noticed to go to the sports ground and plays football,
enjoying themselves.
I'm even more confused.
Everyday the boy, together with his classmates,
is noticed to go to the sports ground and plays football,
enjoying themselves.
My comments:
The words in bold should be in the plural form. The use of passive form, 'is noticed/seen to' sounds odd. The last part in continuous tense, 'enjoying themselves', is incorrect and does not fit into the sentence.
The sentence construction is awkward with too many pauses (staccato effect).
It sounds a bit like a direct translation from Chinese, which is a common tendency among Chinese learners of English.
